Not all parents lie, as not all children lie. And those that do lie, don't lie all of the time.
Sometimes people are misguided and think that it is okay to tell a lie if it's done to 'protect' a person's life or feelings. Unfortunately, the truth usually gets found out thus causing other emotional trauma.
Telling a lie for any reason is never good, especially when it is between family members. We all need to know that we can trust each other, parents and children alike. One discovered lie can totally undermine everything else we ever say.

I won't say that parents lie to their kids all the time; I'll say they bend the truth or withhold information from them for their child's protection. If a kid grew up knowing everything there is to know about life early in their life, they'd want to explore things as an adult and would grow up too early.

you need to be more specific. everyone lies for some reason or another. Looking at the caller ID and not answering the phone is lying, as is "you look nice",or "no,you don't look fat". when you don't believe it to be true. Telling a server dinner was "fine", when you wanted to say it tasted like crap. Fantasy type lying (Santa,Easter bunny, tooth fairy, etc.) enriches a child's world which is a fantasy world at an early age, young children see mommy and daddy as "god-like" and sometimes it is better for parents to lie so that a child's world is not "turned upside down". Our cat once ate my daughters hamster, I bought a new one before she got home, and she never knew. That was lying, but it saved her feelings from being hurt. And, always the "but officer, I didn't know I was speeding" lie. ETC.,ETC.,ETC.

Parents try to sugar coat their children's lives. They're not meaning to lie. They just think you're not ready to handle the graphic truths about certain subjects. It also depends on the child's age. Some parents enjaoyed a fairy tale childhood & want their children to experience the majic as well, such as tooth fairy, santa, etc..You'll understand when you become a parent. until then, enjoy your youth.

I think it would be safe to say that kids lie to parents far more often than parents lie to kids.
DId you eat that cookie? (of course not).
Yes, I did my homework.
My room IS clean.
I didn't do it.
Just because you don't want to hear what your parents are saying, it doesn't mean they are telling you lies.

along the lines of Santa Claus, its because the parents want the kis to have some wonder and stuff, but something more seriousmight be that the truth about something is brutal and hurtful...it may depend on the kids age and how seriously they take something, sensitivity
