It depends on the form of the SiO2. If it is granulated (sand) you get a pretty good non-skid surface, but poor structural strength. The resultant tends to be somewhat crumbly. If it is in the form of glass wool or fiberglass you can get a material strong enough to build boats and car bodies, or printed circuit boards. If it is "solid" glass you get a useless blob of gunk on what could have been a window or mirror.
