A co-worker told me of something to do with your wedding gown, her daughter-in law knocked at their door with her wedding gown over her arm and my friend knew she was about to become a grandmother as her daughter in law had always told her she wanted her to make a christening gown from her wedding gown. WONDERFUL IDEA INSTEAD OF BEING PACKED AWAY FOREVER. How often are wedding gowns used for anything. I have never known of anyone actually wearing their mom's or grandmom's gown so this christening gown could be handed down and a family heirloom.
I would love to have this done from my gown for my grandchildren or see my daughter married Sept 06 or daugher in law as of April 7, 07 do this.

Actually my sister wore my our mother's wedding gown when she got married and had I not eloped, I would have worn it as well. As a matter of fact, I would encourage MY daughter to wear it as well. It has been very well preserved and it's a beautiful gown. but rather than just let it sit if it will never be worn again, why not change it into a Christening gown.

That is definately an old tradition that I am going to do with my dress. I am not going to cut the actual outer layer but the underneath netting etc. That way you wont totally ruin your dress but will have passed it down in a Christening gown.

I really love this idea. I hate to think that my dress will be packed away and only seen on sporadic occasions. It would mean so much more to me if I could see it used for various things in pieces than if it were kept whole and never have any more important uses. I also like the idea of making an angel for your Christmas tree out of a portion of it. Thank you for sharing!

This does sound like a good idea, but I would not want to cut up my wedding dress that I paid a couple of thousand of dollars for. Instead I have a bridal room with my wedding dress on display

That is a wonderful idea, I hadnt ever heard of that but it's great to have the dress reused rather than just sit there packed away forever.

Yes, I've heard of this, and it's a great idea! Some people also make a first communion dress if they have a girl. - or at least use parts of it.

YES, IT IS A VERY NICE IDEA. I DO KNOW SOMEONE WHO DID WEAR THEIR FUTURE MOTHER IN LAWS WEDDING GOWN, AND IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS MADE FOR HER AND SHE LOOKED SO PRETTY.
