If you are interested in a career in law enforcement at some point in your career obtain a secondary MOS as either a 31b (MP) or 11b (infantry) but stick with the intel work. Even if it is an S2 shop you are going to learn alot and there will be oppurtunities for you to attend professional development training, also working in that enviroment will make you a valuble asset to a Police department working on tracking gang crimes or crime trends through out the departments patrol areas

OK, I am AF so I am probably not THE best person to talk to but I do work in intel so maybe I will be able to help you somewhat....

You are worried about working in an S-2 but I see no reason why your work in tactical intel will not help you! I have worked in strategic intel for the past 7 years and just deployed to augment the Army in an S-2 shop. I don't feel that anything I'm doing is a waste; everything is an experience and the more experience you have in this career field the better. I feel the stuff I am learning/experiencing now is actually going to make me better at my real job!! I know you said that you want to work in law enforcement and eventually in the FBI... I would imagine that you would benefit from having as much experience as possible. You more than likely work in the 2 shop for a while and then move to another area, which may be something you're more interested in doing. I doubt they will keep you in a tactical intel position forever. :)

Also, your "experience" with analysing and gathering "intel"... I'm sorry but it is completely different than just pulling stuff from Google... I fear you may be in for a surprise once you actually get to working....

On a side note, there is little chance that ANY intel work is going to help you get a job in that specific area of law enforcement (sex crimes and whatever it was, I forget, I'm sorry). If that is what you really want, you may want to cross-train into CID after your first enlistment.

If you have any questions, please let me know and I will do my best to try and help you.

No matter what your MOS the military will offer you opportunities to further your education. I would take advantage of each and every one of them. A successful, trouble free time of service is going to be an asset to any police force. What ever education you can get, preferably a degree, will be to your advantage. Keep good records of what ever you do and build it into a post military résumé
