I have been taking benadryl for severe itching for a week-it is the only thin that gives me relief and when it wears off i start up itching again and cant take it-it says to take every 4 hrs or so and i take it maybe 4 or 8 hrs apart-i am wondering if i will start getting immune to it and it wont work becasue i know we can get immune to most any medication-but does anyone know how long it may take before it wont help anymore? or anything else that may help with the itching?

Dr. does not know what is causing the itching, and told me to take the benadryl and come back after 10 days if it does not get better, he said it is most likely a reaction to something i was in contact with, like soap laundry det.etc, but i have used nothing new, He really didnt seem to concerned, and acted like well take the benadryl, till it goes awy.
He is the only dr i can go to becasue i have hmo, and if i want to go elsewhere he has to refer me, which in the past always seems to be hard to get him to do for whatever that reason is-its like i have to demand him to refer me, and i dont feel comforatable with that-thanks everyone for your help

Tolerance to the antipruritic ("anti-itching") effects of Benadryl has not been described in the literature so far. The only effect of Benadryl that tolerance has been documented is the sedative effect; tolerance to the sedative effects of Benadryl develops usually within 4 days...

It is importance to understand that Benadryl is not a treatment for your itching but it just provides you relief; what needs to be addressed by your physician is the underlying cause of your itching; Benadryl is not the answer to your problem; it is just a means of providing temporary relief...

i have chronic urticaria[hives]. i know how you feel over a couple of months taking it every day can become immune to it. but if you don't take it for a long time it will work on you again. try aveeno anti-itch concentrated lotion or cream.if the doc doesn't figure out what going on and the benadrlly isn't working ask him for attarax/hydroxine. it a antihistamine. mean while pay attention to your diet write down every thing you eat and when or if itching worsens. only use baby wash in bath and dreft or ivory laundry detergent. aveeno also sells a great oatmeal bath use it with luke warm.

what is causing your itch, put that in details please.
yes, your body can get immune to benadryl. if you are not a big water drinker then you will have several health problems in general. drink water to detoxify your body from whatever is causing the itch.
there are people that benadryl just doens't work on at all.
