A woman lives on the tenth floor of an apartment building. Every morning she takes the elevator all the way down, and goes to work. In the evening, she gets into the elevator, and, if there is someone else in it she goes back to her floor directly. Otherwise, she goes to the seventh floor and walks up three flights of stairs to her apartment. Why?

she is a little person and cant reach the button for the 10th floor. On the way down she can reach the lobby and if there are others she has them push it, if not she reaches the highest button she can (7) and walks the rest of the way to her floor

She is actually afraid of the number 10 and she breaks into tears whenever she is faced with the possibility of having to be alone in an elevator with a button that lights up with the number 10, so if someone else is in the elevator, they can comfort her, but the people in her apartment have begun avoiding her so she has had to take the stairs from the seventh floor up to the tenth floor because her building only has stairs to the seventh floor. The landlords are going to have to tear down the building because it is a fire hazard to only have stairs up to the seventh floor, so this lady will have to move soon.

She's short and she can't reach the button for the tenth floor. She can easily reach the 1st floor button, and if there's someone else in the elevator she can ask them to press the tenth-floor button for her, but otherwise she just hits the button for the seventh floor and walks up from there.
