My parents are really old fashioned and wear glasses. I have to get them too, and I already have braces. How do I convince them that I can wear contacts? They think contacts are not good. Don't tell me "beauty comes from your heart", if I needed that, I'd go see a therapist.

Contacts really work wonders, but talking to them about the problem does help. Make sure you talk to them about it! An eye doctor can show your parents benifits so they can see an actual view point, this way, they don't have false conclusions.

I'd suggest you talk to them first about wanting contacts and ask them to at least talk to the eye doctor about what options you have in contacts. Then you might make a deal with them that if you take care of the glasses for a year, you can get glasses the next year.

If you were my DD though, I'd be closely watching how you're handling your other personal hygiene chores. Contacts are a pretty big responsibility to keep everything clean and infection free. I'd base most of my decision (if you were mine) on how you're doing with your braces. Do your parents have to remind you to do the extra care they require? Do you moan if they do? Or are you responsible and get these things done on your own?

If you're taking care of your dental care on your own you might add that as a bargaining chip to your argument for contacts, too.

first off you don't really know if you can wear contacts or not I had to get glasses but only wear them at work or when I read and they are always on top my head or in reach. I knew of a woman who was crying in the bowling alley and yes she was older than you and I and she had just gotten contacts and her eyes was hurting and she could not get it out of her eyes. I think that maybe they cost more than regular glasses but do the glasses until you can afford to buy your own contacts that way if they do not work it will be your money wasted and not your parents

Have you talked to them about it yet? Tell them that they should at least let you try them.

I've never wore contacts, but I think they would be a better option if you took care of them and everything... b/c I get headaches a lot, and a lot of people I know who had glasses then switched to contacts said they used to have headaches too, b/c they would look out the corner of their eye a lot and it's blurry... and with glasses all of your vision isn't there, just the area of the actual glass... maybe you could tell them this, too... good luck!

Contacts are fine. Tell them you will help pay for them. It will be worth it.

Piss and moan untill they do. If they are strict, not much convincing is going to convince them:P
