I find it strange that people never once stop to question if what they read in magazines or gossip papers but they question the words of the Bible.Such as Condi Rice and Pres.Bush having an affair, or Anything about Clinton,no matter how silly. How about Bat Boy seen at Burger King? What do you think?

Hi. Happy Sabbath. U r so correct. ...and if we questioned these newspaper articles, we'd be accused of interfering w/ freedom of speech. By the way, mythology, etc. can be discussed, but I can't interject/initiate discussions of the real lives of past Biblical people. (Ex. Hercules [myth] -- Sampson [real & Biblical]. Hey, where's MY freedom of speech? Take care.

i think it is odd how we can believe anything we see on the magazines stand or on the news but we question our creator, and its not right and is very hypocritical and i know it is something i do- for example when i read the part in the question about bush and rice having an affair i was like...."What? they did oh my gosh that is so gross" LOL! see how gulliable i am., but i do believe that is something that can be changed by
1.)Avoiding those gossip magazines
2.)really praying and digging into the word
3.)FAITH by not questioning what he or the word says
4.)by refusing to conform to the pattern of this world

It is a hard thing to change because half the stuff you see on tv has some sort of gossip, around every aisle at the store their are magazines and those things are so darn addicting! but it can be changed without a doubt by changing our ways! God bless!

I question everything I read. Especially I question the BIble. As a former Christian, I can tell you why.

1. It contradicts modern science
a. God created the world in 7 days
b. Adam came before Eve
c. Noah's Ark
d. Jesus rising from the grave
e. I could list lots of others, but you get the point.

2. It borrows from earlier Myth
a. Mithra
b. Jupiter
c. Apollo
d. Odhinn/Woden
e. Osiris
f. The Trinity
g. Lucifer (a Roman God)
h. Once again, many other examples to note

3. It claims to be Infallible
a. Contradictions (Love thy neighbor, but kill the witches)
http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/jim_meritt/bible-contradictions.html
b. Biblical history
1. The Bible was compiled by a Pagan Constantine
2. Many books were left out of the Bible and only a small group of men decided what to put in and what to leave out.
3. It's been proven that the Bible was altered more than once.
c. The Gospel of Jesus Christ
1. Being that the book is supposedly about him, or at least the last half, it's very peculiar that he didn't write a Gospel himself.
2. Actually, most of the Gospels were written after his death. Which makes you wonder if Jesus would have disagreed with alot of what Paul or the other Apostles had said.
c. Contradicts the Jewish Torah on many occasions which is supposedly the original.
4. Fear, Loathing and Control
a. Fear
1. Hell
2. Blasphemers
3. Witches
4. Homosexuals
5. Anyone who's not like you
b. Loathing
1. Satan (see Lucifer the Roman God)
2. Anything that's deemed Satanic
3. Women
4. Certain Animals and types of clothing
c. Control
1. Believe or Burn
2. The punishment for sin is death
3. The 10 Commandments
5. The 10 Commandments
a. These really need a Category all their own.
b. They are Illogical and Contradictory from one version to the next.
c. This is the Protestant version, but it is different from the Catholic and Jewish versions. I will explain why I dont believe in any of them
1. I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other Gods before me.
a. Why does God care who we worship? I think there might be an answer here coming up.
b. Why bother acknowledging other Gods at all, if non actually exist?
c. Why does the idea of a lone male God as a Creator God make any sense whatsoever when its obvious that life is a combination of both sexes.
d. Christians don't follow this one because they Worship Jesus.
2. You shall not make yourself an Idol or graven image.
a. This is almost impossible to follow unless you live in a dirt shack somewhere with no belongings. It's ridiculous and unnecessary.
b. Most Christians don't follow it anyways.
3. You shall not Blaspheme for he is a Jealous God and will punish your childrens childrens children.
a. So if God is infallible, why does he get jealous? This was actually the breaking point of Christianity for me. I actually stopped being a Christian when I came to this realization.
b. Why does a loving God punish innocent children?
c. Christians don't follow this one either.
4. Keep Holy the Sabbath Day
a. There are arguments about when that is. Some thing Friday, others Saturday, and others Sunday.
b. Regardless of what day you keep holy, you are keeping holy the days of the week named primarily after Pagan Gods. Except of course for Sunday and Monday which are named for the Sun and Moon which are also parts of Pagan worship. So if you did keep Holy the Sabbath Day, you'd be worshipping other Gods.
c. It makes no logical sense. Someone would have to work on this day. Otherwise if you had a heart attack on the Sabbath day, you'd kick the bucket because the EMS workers were keeping that day Holy.
d. For obvious reasons, Christians don't keep this one either.
5. Honor your Mother and Father
a. This contradicts commandment #1
b. What if your parents are Drug abusing, child molesting, Satan Worshipping Sadists you like to tie you up and smear jelly on you and leave you next to a bee hive?
c. Christians don't do this either. Perfect example is a Christian with non Christian parents.
6.You shall not kill
a. This is too narrow.
b. Example: Hitler, Mussolini, Jeffrey Dalmer, Ted Bundy, etc. We should have and did kill all of those people.
c. Christians don't follow this one either. Otherwise we'd have less dead abortion doctors and less dead Witches.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
a. There are a few definitions of adultery, but Jesus said if you look upon a woman with lust in your heart. Once again this is an impossibility. As humans, we are sexual creatures who constantly crave sex.
b. The demonizing of sex was the Jews way of separating themselves from the Egyptians who were very sexual.
c. Christians don't follow this one, either. (ie Ted Haggard, Jim Bakker, etc.)
8. You shall not steal
a. Illogical especially in a society with no welfare or soup kitchens. Stealing is sometimes for survival.
b. Christians don't follow this one either. Otherwise we wouldn't be in the US. It would still be owned by the Native Americans. Something justified as "God's Will"
9. You shall not bear false witness
a, Also illogical. What if your friend were being chased by an ex boyfriend who had threatened her life. She's hiding over at your house and he knocks and the door and asks if you've seen her. If you follow the 10 Commandments, your friend gets killed.
b. Christians don't follow this one either. I refer you back to Ted Haggard.
10. You shall not covet.
a. Once again to broad of a definition. Even if you break it down to neighbor's wife and neighbor's stuff, it's still too broad.
b. If Christians followed this, we'd be in a Communist society. Coveting is what keeps Capitolism going.

I hope that's enough reason for you.

I think it's sad that people don't question what they read, hear or see in the media.. but, at least it's verifiable information.
In reading the bible, it's easy to question several issues.
Things like bats being called birds.. the world being flat and held up by four pillars.. the sun revolving around the earth.. etc.. when you advertise something as being the "perfect, inspired word of God without error" and then find the errors, one definitely needs to question that.

I guess they question the bible because it was put together by different people, at different times. It's still all true though (except for somethings Paul says in his letters. They're countervail)

Yes it's strange! Like if you tell someone there's over 4 billion stars in the galaxy, they believe you, but if you tell them the paint on the wall is wet, they just HAVE to stick their finger in it and check!!! WHY!!??

I never saw a story in Newsweek about God flooding the whole earth except for one family. I never see a story in Newsweek proclaiming that God will send someone to hell because of the sexual orientation that they are born with.

The bible is hate-filled, bigoted, and fictional lies. Any religion that claims to be the only way to God is a lie.
