I am a full time carer for a company in my area that provides care to anyone who is dis or less abled who wishes to stay in their own home.
Everyday in my work I see people like yourself who care for relatives. It is amazing work that you do and unless people have seen this first hand they just don't understand what it is you do. It is mentally and physically exhausting. I work 40 hours per week and I'm exhausted so for those who do it 24hours a day 7days a week, I cannot imagine how you all feel.
I think there should be a category for carers on here because i have a lot of advice i could offer as I'm sure other full time carers have and I could also learn something.
Lastly to all those who think you are just looking for recognition, ignore them. They have no idea what you go through and are ignorant to the fact you need support. And for the record, I know your not looking for recognition but you ruddy well deserve it....... a medal for each and every one of you!!!

I'm not sure we need a specific category for "Carers" on here but I do think that carer's need support and recognition. I don't think you are asking for a medal or anything. I think that you are simply saying that carers do an awful lot of work and they get very little support for it.
Yes, the ones we care for are our family usually but it's still a full-time job which is very demanding and there is no way of leaving your work at work as with others jobs. You have your work with you at all times and sometimes it is such a struggle to keep going.
Many carers end up needing care themselves for depression simply because they give their all with little or no respite.

No I was a carer for my father when he was dying of cancer, I was only 16 at the time. Last year my partner was involved in a road accident which left him unable to look after himself so I was a carer for him. If you go to the citizens advice or contact your local social services they can put you in touch with carer support groups. The support is out there if you want it, if you're doing it for recognition then you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

Yes I think that`s a good idea. I work in a Residential Home for the Elderly and I`ve answered a few questions on aspects of care, both home care and residential care and the implications.

I think their are chat rooms for this. Go to the Yahoo! chat room site and look for one. If there isn't one, you can start your own site. Pretty cool!
Here's is a pat on the back form me! Good job!
I went on a search for you! On your mail page, click on the Yahoo! link at the top right center of the scree. Then click on "Groups" on the left side. You can search for a group there, and there is a place to create your own right beside the search box! Good luck

It is shocking to know that you want to be treated as some kind of a category...in our part of the world it is your duty. You either do it or don't. And yes everyone can do it. nothing big about it.
