If I ever have children, I think I'll lay down all the different religions and let them read them all to decide for themselves. Why don't more parents teach this way?

Well, I haven't bought my daughter 'all' the books. That would probably be more than the 1000+ we already seem to have.

I did however get her books on comparative religion, different religious festivals and beliefs and a children's bible or two.

She also has access to all my books which range from Alchemy to Zen, with Gnosticism, Hare Krishna, the New Testament (I gave my KJB and Koran to a friend), Rosicrucianism, Theosophy and Voudon in between.

So far, she says she's an atheist. Perhaps I overdid it?

question is what are u teaching them if u just throw a bunch of books at them and not teach them how to use the owners manuals
its like a car
u cant drive without knowing how it runs
it takes a leader to teach our children sacred things
unless u plan on reading all those books to them daily and continuesly its no use
they need to learn prayer, appreciating simple things guidance and structure.
its great that u feel that they have right to choose. i wish more parents had ur views but its silly to think throwing books at kids are the answers.i came from a closed minded family of course too so i see ur point.
my sister claims the key to salvations is in her self help books
my other sister claims the higher power works for her too.
my believe is in god and jesus christ the son of god.
i came from a inactive family in church but church was always around me growing up.
ive had many friends and family members of different faiths and none bother me.
i think what u should do instead is to teach ur kids values and religious tolerance and to accept others.
i go to church regularly and more religiously than others in my own family. so i do say teach them but teach them well.
have a blessed day

Because religion is more than just book knowledge. It is supposed to be a relationship. One with the Creator of the world: Jesus Christ. You cannot gain this relationship through reading a book. You must experience the power of the Holy Spirit.

Children find it difficult to decide between many different things. To make a proper choice, they need to be educated, first, not later. However, education (secular or religious) needs to begin with a spiritual foundation. If you simply try to combine everything or separate everything, you will end up with a confused child, perhaps even a suicidal one. It is best to give a child a strong foundation. Then, if the child wishes, he/she can move on to other things.

Good luck getting a child to read all of those texts. Sure, your child may be an avid reader, but not all children are. I can barely get my students to finish a Judy Blume book....

I believe in Jesus Christ as my savior and I believe with my whole heart that if you dont accept Him then you go to hell. Why would I risk my kids choosing a fasle religion when I already know the true one?
