Contrary to popular opinion, witches did not have magical powers. They possessed excellent powers of healing by using the natural elements at hand. They cared for the people. Before the Christians came, they held a central position in their communities. Christians saw this as a challenge to the power of the church which they did not intend to share with anyone. Consequently, they hunted, tortured and killed them. They la belled them as evil beings in the clutches of Satan and forbade citizens to practise herbal medicine. The same thing happened to the medicine men in the New World. Today, doctors are finding that aboriginal and Chinese means of healing work very well. The church has often demonized their enemies throughout history. All answers must come from them and no one else. Consequently, scientific growth was stunted for centuries. Need we mention Galileo?

Scare tactics. People higher in rank within the Church spread the rumors of witches with "magical powers" (flying on broom sticks, dancing with devils, etc)... it kept the peasants paranoid. Most Christians weren't involved in such things.

The Burning of witches was by the Catholic Church and the Catholic influences. Christians however are not effected by the powers of darkness at the level you claim they are.

i don't think that witches have "magic powers" like Charmed on television... my grandmother was a practicing witch before she converted to Christianity in her 50's and she just did things like call spirits and curse people (which was pretty interesting) and take away warts and things like that...

they dont think beyong their book..
Plus the women that were burned at stake was actually witches... Back then the church would accuse anyone who disagreed with them as being witches..
They even would kill an entire village just for a rumor that 1 witch lived in that village. they would kill everyone in that village not knowing for fact if there was even a witch living there..

I think that most of these 'Christians', were sadists and misogynists hiding beneath a 'Christian' mask. The people who honestly believed these women were witches were probably taking some kind of superstitious precaution.

First of all, it wasn't Christians that burned those people.
It was so called Christians.
The first two burned should have been the two preachers.
They didn't have a clue as to Christianity.
They were the religiosity.
Then they should have burned the accusers next.
That crap would have stopped so fast it would have amazed you.
