if his weight is good and he is still eating and drinking then the chance of it being parvo is slim. sounds like a cold. you can give him baby aspirin and baby cold meds over the counter. just dont over do it and keep him inside as much as you can to keep warm. parvo is a desease that makes them lose weight very fast and they stop drinking and eating. they have diarrea and smell like a rotten sewer. it is treatable but most vets will tell you to leave him there to be treated and that will ru hundreds of dollars for them to say he might die anyway. i treated my lab that had parvo by going to the vet and buying the iv bag and doing it myself every 15 minutes. then when he was strong again i took him in and got him a shot that was used to keep it from coming back

My mom just fostered some very young pups with this same problem. Not a single one died. There's not much you can do without a vet, your dog will need an antibiotic. It acts just like a cold does for us. You probably want to see a vet as soon as possible to get the antibiotics so that the condition doesn't worsen. If it's the same thing my mom's puppies had, then it took a few days for the nose to stop running and they made a turn around within a week. Also, make sure your puppy has had his bordatella vaccine, this is "kennel cough" and can cause the runny nose and wheezing. This is also curable, but something that you really should be aware of. The best thing to do since you have a dog that will probably be going to the groomer every 6-8 weeks, is to have the bordatella vaccine every 6 months. Hope this info helps and eases your anxiety a little. I'm not saying that this is exactly what's wrong, but it doesn't sound fatal. You really should get to the vet as soon as you can.

I agree with most of the posts here. Yes, you do need to take your dog to the veterinarian. There are many things that could cause this and indeed, it could be fatal if not treated early. Dogs are expensive, there's no way around that. In the past 6 months I have taken our chihuahua to the veterinarian's office twice because she apparently had a tummy ache. A very expensive way to find out that I just need to wait and it will pass. But without that exam (and the costs associated with it), something serious might go undiagnosed and I would have a terrible ending to her story.
Only a few moments ago I read a question about 'where can I find a free chihuahua in Va' ... no dog is 'free' and often you will get your money's worth and more if you buy from a reputable breeder. I am assuming your dog has had all of his puppy innoculations???
A draught of any kind will kill a puppy quickly. Make sure he is never in a draught - that information came from the breeder who I purchased my miniature schnauzer from!

It sounds like your dog has an upper respitory infection or allergies. Pups wouldn't last 4 months if it had parvo, take it from me-I had two pups with parvo and both died before 9 wks. old.
Call the vet and ask them over the phone for advise--and that you have a financial problem at the moment-if that's what it is. Don't ignore your dog-at least make the phonecall.

He really needs to see a vet, call your local vet and see if you can make payment arrangements... it does not sound good if its littermates have died?? are you a young adult? do you live at home? if so then your parents need to take it to the vet.. if its that young then yes if left untreated even a cold can kill them... it breaks down the immune system and then the whither away... how is its appetite? how are the bowel movements? drinking OK? ....sorry but it really needs to be seen because without an exam it cant be told what is really wrong with your pup... answers people can just make suggestions... most are not licensed vetas although there are a few on answers but I don't see one here...today.... get it to a vet...smile...good luck

If the puppy is not healthy, he needs to see a vet.
Why can't you take him to the vet?
If it is a money related issue, ask around for vets that will make payment arrangements.
If it is because there are no openings available, take the next one and get puppy in to see the vet as soon as possible.
I really can't think of any GOOD reasons why you wouldn't take a sick animal to the vet. If you weren't in the position to take care of an animal, you shouldn't have gotten the puppy.

Please take him to the vet. The wheezing could be a sign of pneumonia, kennel cough or a variety of even worse things. Emergency vets are open 24 hours and they will work with you for payment. Keep him warm and take him to the vet, I'll say it again- Take him to the vet.

Take the dog to the Vet. What sort of idiot are you? They dog needs treatment.
I get so angry with people like you who will not take care of their pets. The dog might have Parvo and give it to the other animals in the neighborhood; it is highly contagious and humans might get it too. You can work out payments with a Vet.

Take it to the vet!!!! I would say he isn't going to die if you get him there now! Ask a neighbor you trust to take you there if you don't have a car at the moment.
