Not only are we overrun with more dogs than there are homes, but breeding is a very expensive business. Start adding up the vet bills, food bills, and all the rest, most decent breeders make very little profit, if any.

I second the motion, go get a job!

If you're in it for the money you've got another thing coming. There are licenses, vet bills, shots, worming, food and the list goes on and one. When a person starts a kennel it usually takes about 5 years to even show a profit. Most breeders also run boarding kennels just so they can stay in business. Think twice and what everyone else said there are too many dogs in shelters and those horrible puppy mills. Want to start a dog business? Open a pet supply store. Last year people spent something like over 5 billion dollars on pet supplies not including food.

Please don't consider breeding for the money. That is the whole reason so many dogs are put to sleep each year. If you are not dedicated to a certain breed and well being of those animals, as in showing, obedience training, educating other people, you SHOULD NOT be breeding animals. Take the time to educate yourself first and if you still want to do it, do it the right way. Here are some links with great information.

Yah, why don't you go and get a job that doesn't involve breeding dogs, there are already way too many irresponsible people trying to make an easy buck. Raising and breeding dogs PROPERLY will not make you money. It takes a lot of time and money to get good breeding stock. Good breeders breed to improve their chosen type of dog, not to make a boatload of cash.
No more puppy mills.

Why not work at a shelter? There are 100's of doggies there dying everyday. Or foster a pregnant mom and raise those puppies and help find good homes for them.

Please reconsider. There are a ton of irresponsible breeders and puppy mills adding to the over population of pets. We already have enough animals filling up our shelters and running around on the streets without you contributing to that.
