totally! everyone is so hell bent on how to raise your children, and i swear that when all the successful adults were children there parents kept them in line (the old fasioned way) and most of the screw ups were the ones that were pampered and spoiled. sorry but time outs never worked for my kids! but raising them MY way they r just fine now!people just kill me!

Wow. Were you abused as a child?
Time out is not worth crap for many kids, but pure physical retaliation from a parent is flat out destructive. When your son was growing up, did you slap him across the face while screaming "don't hit your friend"?
There is a time and a place for everything, blanket solutions like "time out" and swift kicks in the a... are examples of lazy and ignorant parenting.

This "bird" found that time out works quite well. I've NEVER had the need to hit my children. Really, what does that teach them? ... to hit someone if things aren't going the way YOU want them to?
My children are very well behaved, in fact, I get compliments on a regular basis .. in regards to how well mannered and thoughtful they are.
I suppose hitting your children is OK ... in some people's minds, especially if they don't have the skills to raise their children in the proper manner .. nor seek education on how to raise well mannered, responsible members of society.

i agree 100%! it's crazy the way parents let their kids get away with disrespecting others and generally acting like idiots! if my kid ever tries to talk crap to you, or you hear about it, let me know, I'll beat him to a self repenting pulp. i trust you'll do the same with yours.

Hitting your child as a form of disipline is child abuse! Parents who use use that form of disipline should be ashamed.
