I am not sure what you mean by the question. Is it the rate the heart recovers from a period of exercise? Or after a heart attack?

If after exercise, a simple test requiring only a wrist watch is: 1) take the subject's resting pulse; 2) have him exercise strenuously for two minutes, and take pulse; 3) retake pulse after two minutes. The closer the two minute pulse is to the resting pulse, the better the person's conditioning.

A person whose pulse returns to baseline very slowly is in poor conditioning. He should have a more extensive evaluation prior to a rigorous exercise program, and his program should begin more gently.
