My son is the messiest kid I've had yet. He will be 4 this month and still is unconcerned with making HUGE messes. Instead of getting a toy he will dump the whole box and usually refuses to pick up any mess he makes. I have tried taking ALL his toys, (he didn't care), I've tried making a game of it (only works once in awhile), I've tried telling him he can't come out of his room till it's clean (he just trashes it more), and I've tried to do a reward chart (worked more in the beginning). If I help him, he will not pick up at all, just watch me do it. This guy is bullheaded! Ant suggestions are appreciated!

some people would say that children at that age only repeat what is seen. let him see you washing dishes or cleaning then reward yourself with something that he likes,, example go to the game room and let him watch you have fun. don't let him play at all. maybe even go as far as taking other kids with you and let them join the game... clean something get a treat

I think this is a common problem as I have an almost 4year old who sounds just like yours...I have found that if you try to start a new rule of one toy at a time, one is put away before another is taken out...I also got a organizational bin from target that helps make it easer for him to see where stuff goes...My son really liked rewardboard.com but like everything it wears off...they have a free two week trial.

Good Luck and hopefully they will grow out of it.

it might work to say something about how big boys clean up messes and ask him if he wants to be a big boy maybe even helping him a little or cleaning something else at the same time and say whoever finishes first gets ice cream or something like that thats hard
