Grab some CD/Videos from the local library to start. To move to france try a nanny agency, sometimes they do exchanges. If you live near a college there may be a french club there who would be willing to help you grasp the language conversationally.

well if you are planning to live in France for one year then don't you think you will learn french from french people anyway? Being said that you can go to France by French airlines and while you are there ask anyone for nearby Motel 8.
