Being a former chef, of Irish heritage and having made it quite a few times over my 20 year Hotel/Restaurant career, it is best served with unsalted butter or the English clotted cream, if you serve with any sweet ingredients, traditionally honey or marmalade, lime is nice, seville orange or there is a spread called lemon curd, like lemon custard, but in Ireland they usually just eat it with the meal and dip it into the stew or juices from the meal they serve with it.
