A road where I live was changed from 60 to 45 almost 3 months ago, but still at any given time there are up to 6 cars pulled over on the side of the road. For God's sake they have bright orange flags sticking from the speed limits signs. Then they ***** about how the "goddamn pigs" have nothing better to do other than pull them over for going 70 in a clearly marked 45 zone. These people do know that the little black number on the side of the road isn't a suggestion, right?

People drive at the speed they are comfortable at. They don't realize that their minds are usually not measuring the relative risks of given speeds correctly. In fairness, the traffic engineers made an error at some point as well (either the limit of 60 was unsafe or 45 is too cautious).

On the plus side, it sounds like the new limit is being enforced there. In many places, there arent as many officers available for enforcement and speeding has crawled up.

It's not a suggestion? Damn...why didn't someone tell me?!?!?

Seriously though...from what I've witnessed it takes more than 3 months to get used to traffic changes, especially when their route has become so much habit that they could pretty much do it in their sleep. Where my parents live a few years back, they put traffic lights up at each end of their road in addition to a lot more traffic lights on the main roads they intersect with and there were so many accidents from people running the red lights because it just takes forever to get used to.

I think it depends on the speed limit. I feel just doing 5-10 over is fine. I would never go 70 in a 45 zone. However, I think 25 in a school zone on a saturday is a little ridiculous. But again, I never do more than 5 over anymore.

lol that is funny but i totally agree with you! 5 miles over the speed limit is fine but going 70 in a 45 zone is pretty bad! And can't they see that there are other cars on the side of the road pulled over for the same thing! Jeez People these days!! lol

That's pathetic, really. It's the same around here. We have bad construction on the main road outside my neighborhood, and the posted speed is 30MPH. But people are so frustrated that they have to go 30 instead of the usual 55, that they don't acknowledge the lives of the workers or the police. People get pulled over all the time, yet people still speed. Does nobody see the giant signs? It's sad and scary.

I remember when they put up a stop sign in the middle of a residential area. I park in my sector car down the street for two hours writing over 42 summons for running the stop sign.

No one saw the sign, education takes a long time.

What can we do we are in the "me" generation... Being inconsiderate when they drive, speeding, no turn signals, not stopping at a stop sign. A couple of weeks ago a girl up in the city (oklahoma) was on her way home from work, someone sped up and cut her off causing her to end up in a ditch and die, did they ever catch the creep, nope. I feel that drivers today are so freakin inconsiderate, if you are late perhaps leave earlier, cuz when you speed you risk my life, and the life of my children as?holes.
also when there is a school zone, dont drive like your on the freakin freeway, its there for a reason, so you can stop in time if a kid runs out in front of you!
so the answer to your question is they are JERKS

That's what happens when states don't enforce license suspension! They're only intrested in the fines they colllect!
Then we get all the sob stories and politicians pounding their chest when construction workers get killed!
We recently had a fellow in town that had an accident that someone was killed and the newspaper found he had 27 traffic convictions to which the state did not suspend this losers license! It's all about money in this country!

Speeding is the most unobserved law in our society. For some of us...that number in black is the speed minimum!

This is a rhetorical question so what is your actual question?

You know people can read, they just don't give a damn, want to drive as fast as they want to go, and are taking a gamble that they won't get caught.
