The Marines are a sub-segment of the "Department of the Navy" -- this in no way implies that they are less than the Navy. They have a proud heritage and strong representation at DoD.

Technically the Marines fall under the Department of the Navy, so that does not make them a higher level organization wise. As far as training, yes.. Marine boot camp is harder or a "higher level" than Navy boot camp.

Marines is a department of the navy. We call it the mens department. As far as a higher level, we have a different job then the squids so it doesn't really compare. The squids float around the ocean on a boat while the Marines go kick but and take names. Which one is better well any Marine will tell you he would rather have a sister in a whore house than a brother in the navy.

They have different jobs to preform. Originally Navy sailed the ships. The Marines were on board to defend the ship. Thus, the Marine Corps became part of the Department of the Navy.

No. An E-4 in the Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, or Coast Guard is the same rank with the same respect. The same is true with all ranks.

Not mecessarily a higher level.
THere is more physical and mental work in the Marines unless you include the Navy Seals.
Typically, the living conditions and treatment in the Marines is harder than that of the Navy.
From Hardest the Easiest, here's a list:
Marines
Army
Navy
Air Force

Where did you get that crap from limp liberal? The Marines are a department of the Navy and each have their own specialties. They are equal if anything just like the rest of the US Military.

The Marines are part of the Department of the Navy, so you could say it's the reverse :)

Seriously: The Marine Corps is one of five equal branches of the military, all of which we should be equally proud.
