In Catholicism, the highest holy days are the Triduum which include Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Holy Saturday Easter Vigil.
This is actually one long liturgy:
+ On Holy Thursday, the Last Supper is remembered.
+ On Good Friday, the Crucifixion and Death of Jesus is relived.
+ At the Holy Saturday night Easter Vigil mass, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated in the most important Mass of the liturgical year.
With love in Christ.

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, which commemorates the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem -- (you know, the donkey ride with all the people throwing palms and singing Hosannah). The following Thursday is Holy Thursday. This commemorates the night of the Last Supper, and the prayers in the garden of Gethsemane. The next day is Good Friday, the day of Jesus's crucifixion and burial. Holy Saturday is the day of waiting, the day of the silent tomb. Late at night on Holy Saturday, there is a celebration of the coming of light and resurrection. Early the next day, Easter Sunday, we go with the women to the tomb and find it empty. Which of these days are the "three" in your question, depends on whether you are counting Easter itself, or just the days leading up to it -- (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). If you count Easter Sunday, the whole commemoration actually lasts four days.

Holy Thursday, wherein Christ and His Apostles celebrated the Last Supper beginning when Jesus washed the their feet to demonstrate true humility and proceeding through the consecration of the bread and wine, ending with the agony in the Garden of Gethsemane and Judas' betraying kiss.
Good Friday, wherein Jesus was brought before Pilate, then Herod, than back before Pilate, was sentenced to die, crucified, died and was taken from the cross to Joseph of Arimathea's tomb and laid there to await the passing of the Sabbath.
Holy Saturday, when Christ's body reposed in the tomb and He went and harrowed hell, removing from its confines all those who wished to follow Him.
These are called the Triduum, or Three Days. Followed of course by Easter Sunday, wherein the women went to finish preparing the body for proper burial only to find the empty tomb.
Alleluia! He is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

The Sacred Triduum, it starts with Maundy Thursday in the evening with the commemoration of Jesus instituting the Most Holy Eucharist and washing the feet of the Apostles, On the holy Friday we call good we remember His sacred Passion and death on Saturday His descent into hell, and then come the Easter vigil commemorating the most important event in human history, the Resurrection of Jesus.
The word maundy derives from the first Latin word in a song that is sung on Holy Thurday while the priest washes the feet of 12 men "Mandatum novum do vobis ut diligatis invicem sicut dilexi vos" (A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another as I have loved you)
