Well as a licensed cosmetology instructor I can give you two points of view. First, the instructor's view, Pantene, Pert, etc. have a lot of ingredients that give you shine (a plus for some) but they come in the forms of waxes..the same that are in car waxes...but if you have thick dry hair that has no shine then these are great. But if you have finer textured hair, these may weigh your hair down and make it look greasy and flat. Now the Cosmetologist side....professional brands are more expensive but are more concentrated and last longer because you need less so you get more for your money instead of using a whole palm full of Suave or other less expensive brand to get your hair clean.

Hairstylists prefer their clients to use a product that is actually going to change the condition of the hair for the better. Unlike, Pantene ingredients which only provide an external cover over the hair shaft not feeding the scalp or repairing damage. You should listen to your hairstylist they know what they are talking about.

There is actually a study that showed that pantene uses floor wax products in it. However, it also has been proven to work very well in bringing out natural hair colors and highlights. I personally use it and really love it. The whole hairstylists saying not to use it may just be a "ploy" to use there own store products.

Because Pantene Pro-V has actually been shown to be BAD for your hair. It waits it down and actually makes your hair more dull.

ive heard that for certian types of hair it does weigh it down. I believe it has some ingredients that coat the hair shaft. I think for people with a coarser or frizzy hair it probably is a good product, as it would make their hair appear more smooth and sleek.

Because it leaves a really bad build up that makes your hair limp and not as easy to style.
