In the days of Jesus, people didn't have surnames like we do today. He was known are Jesus of Nazareth or Jesus son of Joseph the carpenter. Christ actually means according to wikipedia:
Christ is the English translation of the Greek word Χριστός (Christós), which literally means The Anointed One. It translates the Hebrew word מָשִׁיחַ (Mašíaḥ), usually transliterated Messiah.
The word is often misunderstood to be the surname of Jesus due to the numerous mentions of Jesus Christ in the Christian Bible. The word is in fact a title, hence its common reciprocal use Christ Jesus, meaning The Anointed One, Jesus. To clarify this, Jesus is sometimes referred to as "the Man". Followers of Jesus became known as Christians because they believed that Jesus was the Christ, or Messiah, prophesied in the Tanakh (which Christians term the Old Testament). The majority of Jews reject this claim and are still waiting for the Christ to come (see Jewish Messiah). Most Christians now wait for the Second Coming of Christ when it is thought he will fill the rest of the Messianic prophets.
The area of Christian theology focusing on the identity, life, teachings and works of Jesus, is known as Christology
Neat huh?=)

Jesus name was actuall Jesus Ben Joseph (or Jesus son of Joseph). Christ is not part of His name, but a title, meaning "The Anointed One". Hence, sometimes you'll hear him referred to as Jesus The Christ.

No Christ is a messiah reference. Jesus did not have a last name, as they were not in use at the time. If Joseph had actually been his father, he would have been called Jesus Ben Joseph, or the (Son of Joseph), in reality is father was Panterra, so Jesus if legitimate in birth would have been called Jesus Ben Panterra (or son of Panterra)...mostly in adulthood people where known from their place of birth, hence Jesus of Nazareth and even centuries later Leonardo Da Vinci , or (Leonard from Vinci). hope that clears things up.

Christ, Hristos in Greek, is a title, not a surname. In the scriptures, Christ, Messiah and the Anointed are often equalized, therefore Christ meaning "Saviour".
P.S. Jesus's name is actually pronounced Iehoshua. Interesting little fact, isn't it?

Jesus ben/bar(son of) Joseph
Jesus of Nazareth
Christ is a title meaning, "anointed one."
Greek = Christos
Hebrew = Messiah
The Christian concept of Messiah is far different from that described by the Prophets of Judaism.

No. Christ = "Christos" = "anointed one" or, "Messiah"
Jews of the time did not use "surnames' - but the designation "son of"
Jesus of Nazareth (The Christ) would have been "Ye'shua Ben Y'seph"
