once you have something in collection - even though you have paid these - it stays on your report for quite awhile

The first thing to do is to get some sort of written documentation proving the debt has been payed. This could be acquired from the collection agency, the lending institution that originally backed the line of credit (i.e. visa, providian, mastercard, etc.), or personal banking information (such as checking account reciepts) proving you did, in fact, pay your end of the debt. Once you have this in your possession, make a copy of it (always keep the original document for your records) and send it with a dispute letter to each of the 3 credit bureaus (experion, equifax, and transunion) stating that a false debt has been submitted to your credit report. After confirming that you did pay the debt as agreed, these agencies have no choice but to exponge the account completely, or at least note that the balance has been paid or settled in full. The main point here is that you need written proof that the debt is no longer outstanding and you can get pretty much anything removed from your credit report. If the debt is unpayed, however, this is sure to show up somewhere and the debt will remain.

You more than likely will no be able to have them removed from your credit report, even if you paid it. Once the bill goes to collections it stays on your report. If you pay it ... it will show paid on your report, but will stay there. You can try contacting the company who is on your report and see if you can request it to be removed, but most people will not remove it.

Even if you pay collections, they still show on your credit for 7-years. They will just show as paid. This is the price you pay for not paying your bills as agreed.

Sorry, but it's true.

Send a certified letter to the creditor and dispute the item with the credit bureau you used. Listed below is a link for sample letters.
