Well, not that they are AT ALL alike but I have a chihuahua, who's ears are also supposed to stand up. Well, it took a good 8 months for his ears to stand up they way they are supposed to. I say to give him a few more months....they'll stand up eventually.

With GSD sometimes the ears do not stand until the dog is closer to almost a year old.
Most are standing most of the time by about 8 months or so but some have ears that never stand.
With some more time your dogs ears should get there in a few months.

Hi David,
My husband and I have had many German Sherpherds, my dogs have been in Shutzhund Trials and several of our dogs have been to the world Championships (including Belgium)
So....we do know Pure Bred Males quite well.
Usually, the dogs ears would have been up by now. But,
unfortunately depending on his bloodline it can take up to
9 months. Are his ears at least half up and drooping just at the ends ?

We have a female shepherd who is 5 1/2 months old. One ear has been up for months, the other is still flopping over at times. Since she's still teething, we're not worried. Our vets and the breeder all say wait until at least six months before you consider taping. We only had to tape once of our five shepherd's ears over the years. He had very wide set, large ears, which I think was his biggest problem. The vet taped them once. Tape was on for 10 days, and they stood just fine.

Puppies ears will go up and down until after they have finished teething. In view of his age his teeth wouldn't have settled yet so you probably have about a month to go. Very rarely some GSD's have what they call 'soft' ears and they will stay down.

well, normally, you would want to make the dog stronger, or just wait till he's older.
