Without some form of "medication"..whether that be sleeping pills or alcohol... instant sleep is impossible, unless you pass out from extreme exhaustion. I think the best thing you can do is to start to calm down an hour before you plan to go to sleep, avoid things with sugar or caffeen in them and also try to go to sleep around the same time every night and get yourself out of bed early in the morning. I usually have a very hard time sleeping, then i slept in late because of it, it was a vicous circle and i was nearly turning into an owl. So if you have tried all the natural remedies and tried to manage you "body clock" and this hasn't worked see your doctor about sleeping pills, or perhaps there is another reason for your disturbed sleep...depression/aniexty perhaps? If you just want to get chemist sleeping pills, nytol..one a night tablets are very good but it's not a permanet solution. Hope you get your sleep sorted out soon , it can be very annoying.i know!

Don`t stress out about dropping off, it will only keep you awake.
Try and get into routine of going to bed at a certain time and also waking up.
Warm bath before bed and a hot milky drink (hot chocolate or ovaltine)
