windows xp 64 bit can hold up to 16gb,most xp users using normal 32bit machines dont realise that xp under 32bit can only hold 4gb,and some motherboards hold between 4 and 16gb
anything past 16gb im not sure but i dont reckon you will find a motherboard that can hold over 16gb anyway
while on the subject of windows xp 64bit i downloaded this the other day,its a version of xp pro 64bit(180 day trial)..http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/facts/trial.mspx,it comes as a i.s.o file so you will need to use nero or roxio and burn this image to disk(use a cd-r as the file is 550mb)
it will come in handy as a emergency, the product key is sent with the notification e-mail
i hope this helps

You can install XP in all modern machines. Its working can improve with more RAM and large hard drive.

Processors have varying number of pins. That means when you change your processor you may have to change the mother board as well.

Some boards require the RAM cards to be in pairs. That means some boards will work with just one card. Some don't They will see the RAM only when a pair is plugged on to it.

The amount of maximum RAM that a board can support will be different on different boards. It has no connection with the operating system.

That depends totally on the motherboard, not XP
