Last friday i had a person who believed in the christan faith tell me i was going to hell becuase i was eating meat. When i told them that it means nothing to me, they seamed very angry from hearing that.
I am just trying to understand why some one would say that. Do christians think that when they push their beliefs on other people that it will change their mind?? I just dont know what this person was thinking when they said this. I mean, why do christians push their beliefs on others so much??
if your a christian and you have ever said something like this to some one else, what was your reasoning? What made you say somthing like that? it just makes no sence to me? extra coments are welcomee. <3

I'm a devout Catholic, and first of all, I can asure you that you won't go to hell:)
The person was probably talking about Lent. It is a custom for some people to not eat meat on Fridays during Lent. But it isn't a huge deal. And many people forget. That's one funny thing about Catholic sins: they are defined as a deliberate turn away from God. It is only a sin if you know it is a sin, and do it anyway. If you haven't been told, or you just forget, it is no big deal. And the meat thing isn't really a sin, anyway.
The person who told you this was drastically misinformed. Jesus accepted sinners and believers alike, and never accused or judged. People who force their beliefs on others are doing all Christians an injustice. If they feel the need to make everyone christian that strongly, they probably have doubts about their beliefs themselves. If a person truly believes in what they say, they won't feel the need to forcefully spread their beliefs. People will see their conviction, and converts will come to them:)
The next time someone does this to you, quote them Jesus teachings about judging others (Matthew 7:1-5) or just sum it up. That'll make them feel dumb:)

First of all, this is a dogma which has it's origins in Catholicism, (and yes, there is an abyss of difference between Christians and Catholics). Strict Catholics don't eat meat on Fridays because this is the day of the week when Jesus was put to death (the sacrifial lamb) so basically, they believe it sinful to eat meat on this particular day and especially over the Lent period.
However, Jesus was very specific about such traditions and usages (e.g. working on the Sabbath, circumcision, etc.) and how they can very easily overshadow and detract from God's true message if we place too much importance such superficiallities.
In Colossians 2:16 Paul writes: "Therefore let no man judge you in eating and drinking or in respect of a festival or of an observance of the new moon or of the sabbath".
And talking of judging? Jesus Himself says: "Moreover, stop judging, and you will by no means be judged; and stop condemning, and you will by no means be condemned. Keep on releasing, and you will be released". Luke 6:37

...so turn the other cheek and have a good life!

Well, I don't exactly know why someone would condemn you to hell for eating meat. It's not nessecarily a staple of the Christian faith to not eat meat. However, I suppose there are some people that believe that it should be. I am a Christian. I believe in sharing my faith, but I don't believe in throwing it in someone's faith as if I am better than they are. If someone wants to know why I think one way or another, I will happily but respectfully tell them my opinions. However, I do think someone has the right to believe however they want to.

Some Christians believe that we are not only responsible for spreading the faith (which I do believe we are called to do), but they also believe we are responsible for the response that someone makes. If I come to you and tell you about Christ, but you choose to not follow Him, that choice is yours and I cannot be held responsible for what YOU choose. Some Chrsitians respond in hostile ways because they think they ARE held responsible for what someone else does. They believe they are doing you a favor by telling you the consequences of your actions (or what they believe in the consequence).

Christians are called to spread the news of Christ to others, but I do not believe we are called to SHOVE it at people. I do think that is wrong. I also think that many Christians misunderstand that command. As far as thinking that it will change their mind, yes, actually some people believe very much in the fear tactic. Some churches get people to surrender to Christ by using the same idea, and many of those people telling you that you are going to hell were told the SAME thing before they were a Christian. They learned to do it by the people that "saved" them.

Hope this helps. And, just so you know, eat as much meat as you want. lol

I've never told anyone that they're going to Hell -- much less for eating meat on Friday. The only thing that sends a person to Hell is rejecting Jesus Christ's atoning death on the Cross.

And the reason that we "push" our beliefs on other people is because Jesus Himself said that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him. We tell others about His sacrifice so that they can know and accept Him if they choose to.

Ultimately, the decision is theirs, and threats of damnation certainly don't help. That's not our call to make. . .only God says who is going to Heaven and who is not.

Going to hell for eating meat is a new one on me, but someone telling you something like if you (eat meat, work outside the home if you're a woman, listen to rock music, read Harry Potter, ect.) - then you are going to hell is a very legalistic sort of Christian. Personally I think that someone who offers such a judgemental opinion uninvited, Christian or no, is not someone I would want around me.

No I have never said anything like this. They broke Jesus' one law in doing this. "Love God and Love your Neighbor". Being Catholic I must apologize to you for this woman (because it was a meat on Friday thing which probably makes her Catholic as well (though not really if she would say that to you)), The Church teaching would say she has committed a great sin by creating disharmony and judging. According to our belief ours is not to judge, condemn, or force ours is only to love and everything we believe and do must be born out of love, end in love and have no other purpose then two love. If she says this again tell her to go read the Catechism of her Church and learn what it is really about.

The person who told you eating meat was a sin, does not understand the Bible. God told us it was O.K. to eat any kind of meat as long as it didn't offend anyone. Some Christians who are new to the faith are excited about what they have learned and become overzealous in sharing it with others. You expect them to be loving and kind and you should respond likewise. They will learn in time that sharing their faith requires self-discipline and love.

Meat has NOTHING to do with your salvation! The person does not represent the true Christian Faith the Bible or Christ.

Need I say more......

You can tell a true christian by their Love of God and Their love of man.
Of course we share BUT true Christianity does not force the choice.

i consider myself a christian and i am sorry that someone said those things to you. only god will judge you or i or anyone for that matter. no can tell anyone else they are going to hell. thats rediculous. i dont know why some push so hard. i dont have a problem sharing or explaining my beliefs to anyone but i dont expect them to just do as i do, or believe as i believe. god gave you and everyone their own brain, and im sure you know how to use it. Gods loves all of us the same, as should we. no matter what they believe or not. Jesus died on the cross for all of our sins, so you are able to recieve forgiveness just like anyone. i dont believe people are sent to hell for doing something as simple as eating meat. thats rediculous. All that matters is your heart. lets treat everyone nicely people. Christains stop telling people they are going to hell because last time i checked only god desides that!

I seriously doubt that this person was a Christian. The reason I doubt has to do with the story of Acts 10 where GOD tells Peter to arise kill and eat a bunch of unclean animals.

Trolls pretend to be Christians too.
