To become a Good programmer, you need a few key skills:

1. Logical Ability - You should always have the mindset of asking the right questions
2. Communication Skills - Programmers need to read documents, write documents, communicate with team. Although this is part of most jobs, programmers need to do it with a lot of clarity because chances of being ambigous are very high.
3. Reading Skills - To keep yourself ahead of your peers,you need to read a lot
4. Taking Initiative - In most cases programmers will be able to come across unforeseen scenarios and hiccups. You must take the initiative to improve your whole teams performance.
5. Business Acumen - Tech people usually lack understanding of business - so they tend to have friction with clients and with their own management because they dont understand the way businesses are run.
