I am assuming that you are applying for your permanent resident card? If so, then it would depend on if you have travel authorization or not. When my wife did her application she could not travel outside the country until her application was approved. You should call the USCIS customer service number to find out. It would be on your receipt that you got from them when you filed your application. I just happen to have the number also, it is 1-800-375-5283.
