Some children take longer then others to potty. He might not have control yet over his bowels. Who knows? All children are different and I know some don't grasp the full concept of the potty till 4. Try not to get frustrated and try not to stress him out about it. He'll go when he's ready.

I have 4 boys and I'll tell you what worked the best for me. Put his potty in a place where he's at alot. I used a bathroom rug under his so that way if any went on the floor I didn't have to worry about it ruining our rug. Since we were always in the living room that's were I put ours. This step is the most important leave him naked. When they are naked they can feel better when they have to go. This has got to be when you have a good week or two devote to this. Make a big deal when they go. Reward him too. He has to have a couple of signs to look for and this will tell you he's ready. Stop pee mid stream, wake up from naps or bed time with dry diaper(doesn't have to be everytime), there's a couple more I can't remember but when he's ready definatly do the no pants it REALLY works!!

Here's how I do it:
Put them in a long T-shirt all day....nothing else....no diaper, no pull ups, no underware.
Show him where to go potty. You may have an accident here and there on the way to the loo but it works by 3rd day.
I left the diapers, pull-ups, undies etc. off at night as well. Just a long t-shirt and never had a wet bed.
Important: No drinks hour before bedtime.
You see,it's when the clothing is next to them they just let it go. When nothing is there they realize they have to go 'on' the potty or it goes down their legs and all over. They don't like that!!
Worked for me with 3 kids so far....

I've heard of people putting cheereos in the toilet to make it a game - more for aim than anything - but if it gets him to use the potty it's worth a try. I don't like pull-ups at all because they're too much like diapers and kids can't feel that they're wet. I'd stick with training pants and just keep encouraging him to be a "big boy."

Honey I feel your pain, my son is the same way, but we are doing better. Give him a treat when you send him to the potty., if he goes in the potty. Boys are the hardest to train because it is just not that important to them lol. The treats seem to be working with my son, and there seem to be no end in sight with the bm, but he is getting there.
I have trained many children, but my on does not cooperate. Of all the children I a have trained, boys are best motivated with their favorite candy.
Try not to go back and forth with undies and pullups just stick with one. It is possible to train in a pull up fully, I have done it with many boys, but if you switch back and forth it sends out a single of confusion for the child. He she does not know what ou expect of them and so there for they will ignore you.
Hope that this helps.

first, we made sure we brought our son to the bathroom with us everytime we went. then, with boys you can make a game out of it. throw a fruit loop or cheerio in the toilet let him "hit" the target. this will also teach him to aim!!!!! if a game dosent work, try a bribe. we hung a new toy on the bathroom wall to show him what he gets if he uses the bathroom. finally DO NOT put diapers or pull ups on him anymore. you may not htink it bothers him to sit in his mess, but it does and it will and if you go back to diapers than all the progress you have made will go down the toilet (sorry for the pun).

he's old enough to learn
throw away all diapers and take him to the store to pick out his own under-ware
try asking him and putting him on the potty every 30 minutes or so
give a reward(stickers, m&m's, small toy or collect points for a big thing like a trip to McDonald's or big toy)
don't give up and be consistant no matter what

my niece is 4 and coming to 5 end of this year, she still poo on the diapers, she just can't get rid of the habit to poo in the toilet though urine there is no problem. Think 3 years is still ok, give him some time.
