But I must say if I were I would take no oath to a king queen or whomever.

I can't imagine they take it seriously at all. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised that they don't even know they have taken an oath to the queen!

We swear an oath to the Queen as a figurehead and nothing more but we swear to uphold the laws of Canada. So basically if the Queen did make demands on the citizens of Canada to follow her lead and/or to lay question to our laws we would tell her to piss off.

I view her as the figurehead of the British Commonwealth. I don't think of her as being the leader or anything like that. I wouldn't follow her. However, I am fine with her being the head of state in a cultural sense. Canada has strong historical ties with the UK. But in the 21st century, the British monarchy has little power. Sure, she may be my Queen, but she doesn't have the power to command me.

Oath to the Queen??!!! I thought that Canada was its own nation and not a subject of the Queen.
It's no darned wonder that Canada is so screwed up!!!!

I think you only take the oath if you are not born a Canadian citizen. For example, if you change your citizenship as an adult
