Ions brand new are under $200. Unless it is REALLY upgraded, like including a new board, feedneck, ASA, just for starters. Based on the upgrades, it COULD be a good deal just because the Ion is so upgradable. But if it's close to stock, or heavily used, it's an awful deal. You can get slightly upgraded Ions online for around $200 barely used. I would shop around unless it's got tons of upgrades that you like. The Ion is actually a great starter gun between the 150-200 dollar range, because it is so upgradable. Unless you'd rather go less and get a Spyder (anywhere between 100 and 200 bucks.) or more and get a Promaster (250+). Maybe even a Diablo Wrath LTD (230ish). Hope this helps!

i own 2 ions a regular and a pro2. pro2 ions range from 399 to 599. this guy is really rippin ya off if the gun has no upgrades. And this is what i would do for getting an average gun. Other than the ion, there are many upgradable guns for instance the pilot or any of the MR series. the pilot is cheap but it can be upgrades to an ACS by adding the $100 circuit board or even changing the feed necks or even changing the air valuve to make ur bps go higher. The MR1 can also be upgraded. it starts out as a semi non E-marker. But you can upgrade to an electric, buy and mount a scope. change the feed neck to any direction (orginally slant to the right) you can even buy different gun buts if you dont like the one it comes with. Heck i have an MR1 i made it better than MR2 and keeping the style of my gun. I added an "eye system" which is like an ACS system.
I hope this helps and im only 13 but i still kick *** at paintball. Yes i do have these upgrades. im saying these are for begginers i have a dm6 myself as im consider myself a semi pro in NASPL

If there are no upgrades on it, its not a good deal. You can get a new one for $200. But also it would save you alot of trouble of buying it yourself.
Upgraded parts= depends on what
No upgraded parts= as long as it has a Nitro Tank
No upgraded parts, no Nitro tank= No
Nitro tank= Yes
Any more questions about paintball, feel free to e-mail me at Kbaj203@yahoo.com. I am very smart when it comes to paintball so im a good person to ask.

We're going to need more info about the gun before we can say what is or isn't a good deal. Does it have any upgrades? if so, what upgrades? Is he including a nitro tank with it? If so, what brand and size? Is he including a hopper with it? If so, what kind?
Be very specific...

for one the ions for $200 must have been on sale
second off if you are going to buy an ion from your friend first ask him what upgrades it has and if it comes with a hopper and nitro you will also need to ask about lubing

Believe so. The pages I saw mentioned a break beam system and electronic trigger.
