People eat this stuff down on the bayou & in South America, too. There it's called 'capibarra' & people eat it during Lent since they feel it's not technically 'red meat.'

They rodents brought to this country (namely the bayous of Louisiana and Texas ) from South America in an attempt to establish a fur trade. That have long fur, but I don't think the market ever caught on. These are very ugly critters with big reddish orange buck teeth.

I live in SE Texas and they're everywhere. Nuisances really

They might be eaten in the Back Country, but I've never heard of Nutria Stew. I don't think I'd eat them...Not even during Lent, or Advent..not even Ramadan

I've eaten it.. It's delicious and nutritious!! Yummy!!!
