My 3 year old daughter acts as if she doesn't like my husband when I (her mother) am around. My husband was gone for half of last year (with the Army) and he works evenings and half of every weekend now, so they have limited time together. My husband says she acts like "daddy's little girl" when I'm not around, but when I'm around, she only wants me and is very standoffish to him. I know this is hurtful to my husband. I've tried everything I know to encourage her to be kind to her daddy. I want her to WANT to spend time with him, even when I'm around. Any suggestions?!

when you and your both are together no matter what she wants tell her to go to daddy you are too busy . Tell her daddy loves he so much he would like to help her and he knows sometimes mama needs to just sit rest. What ever you do , do not get up and help her ,let your husband do it and if she refuses him then show her it does not get done. leave it until she accepts both of you together.

She's just not used to him, gone half a year, now works nights probably sleeps during the day, I would suggest ,if you have a build a bear in your area to have Daddy take Little Bit there and use the recored message to tell her something special, a bedtime message or something of the sort. This is a suggestion I have seen in materials for families with soldiers who are deploying, and plan to have my hubby do this before he deploys this summer.

Some children have different ways of showing thrie affection to parents. To mom in one way and to dad in another. It's your husband who should realize that. I think your daughter's behaviour will change with time if her attitude is taken as natural.

We invented a game with my daughter when she was going through a little anti-dad spell - it was called animal kisses. I would get her all worked up to give him a tiger kiss, or a lion kiss, or a monkey kiss - - she couldn't wait to see his reaction - and as long as he played along, she could care less about mommy anymore!
