How far can a pen go?

With a standard bic blue biro, approx how far in miles/ metres could it go before the ink ran out, as in it was attached to a moving object, assuming that the friction wouldn't damage the tip

So far only 3 inches - but if I use a hammer I may be able to get it further in my ear.
