Should I get another male cat that's fixed? He's an inside cat so if he starts spraying it would be nasty. But he needs a friend. Is there a certain sex that would cause him to spray or would any cat as long as they're fixed be ok?

He won't spray that's why you got him fixed.

Try a non dominant cat. Male or female.

Remember NON dominant.

I think a spayed female would be the best bet. It is never predicable how cats will react to one another. You have to know the cats pretty well. Most males are fairly laid back about new additions though they can react in a territorial way (spraying).

Part of his reaction will depend on his age too - the older the more possibility of adjustment problems - say if the resident cat is over five years.

People have reported here that male cats can become very "motherly" with young kittens - both male and female. That would be a best-case senario. Go good luck with it.

Your attitude will play a part in the success of your new addition so don't get anxious and expect a lot of problems. What we visualize in our thoughts (a happy adjustment) is very apt to become the reality.

You actual ought to get your male "fastened" (neutered is actual the term) and that's HEALTHER to your cat, and likewise makes him a greater desirable puppy, frequently. It protects him against specific cancers, and he won't have the desire to roam to locate a woman to impregnate - the final factor we want interior the worldwide is greater lovable kittens and cats placed down by way of fact there are no residences for them - actually thousands are being killed in shelters and kilos each and daily by way of fact there are nowwhere close to adequate residences for those adverse kittens and cats. there is actual no sturdy reason no longer have him neutered - my guy and that i could would not have a cat who isn't neutered, and the final time we accompanied a kitten from a community shield, he replaced into already "fastened" as quickly as we accompanied him at 9 weeks old - greater shelters are doing this by way of fact irresponsible people won't have it carried out themselves, so i'm in want of this - our now 5 year old male cat is a great little guy - he's a "chirper" and a "singer"- and a exhilaration. he's stored indoors so he's not subjected to the perils he ought to stand outdoors. Please do the desirable factor to your male cat - for his wellbeing - and likewise to help provide up overpopulation - have him neutered. Spraying could be awful in some cats, and maximum do spray in the event that they do no longer look to be neutered - they're continuously marking their territory and a great style of folk choose for to do away with cats while they initiate off doing this by way of fact they could't stand it - that's adverse of direction, by way of fact it isn't the animal's fault that this is proprietor did no longer have him neutered.

If you have a male cat, and he's fixed, then there is no problem. If you want another male cat, they will fight.

If you want a female cat, you will want to have her fixed as well, or deal with the consequences of her going into heat, EVERY MONTH... Also, they will fight.

Any new pet you introduce into the house will fight with your male cat, but it shouldn't last longer then a month.

If your cat never sprayed and is fixed, it's very unlikely he will start.
