Earwax would stop it before it got to your ear drum . If it is small it would get pushed out with earwax. If it's large and painful it would probably be removed in the ER or by an ENT.

I think it is rare because usually the bug would be stopped by wax or hair. But it did happen to my uncle and he was in extreme pain because the bug was buzzing in his ear. He said it was like a high-pitched siren in his head. I think they just added some sort of liquid drop and drained his ear and the bug came out. Unfortunately he did not survive. The bug that is.

well it depends on what kind of bug...normally you will feel tickling movement hear odd sounds on only one side, and there may be ear pain....if you think you have a bug in your ear turn off all the lights and hold a flashlight to the ear...sometimes the bug will go to the light...or try pouring alcohol into the ear canal or peroxide....if that doesn't work consult a Dr.

Yep, saw it on a medical show. A "JUNE BUG" had gotten into a woman's ear and she was FREAKED! and so was I! She could feel its wings fluttering, it was buzzing!! she was in agony! She was saying it was going to get into her brain! BTW...the doctor said this was impossible...it can't get to your brain from your ear canal...whew! They tried to get it out with tweezers (in the ER) but she couldn't stay still. Why they didn't sedate her I'll never know. They showed the inside of her ear..it was all red and raw from the thing trying to gnaw it's way out! ewwwww, I was starting to get sick at the thought! ANYWAY...they ended up putting some alcohol into her ear to kill the bug, then went in with tweezers and got it out. Of course then they were worried how to grab it so it didn't fall apart! GROSS! Gives me the "willys" just thinking about it. So they gave her an antibiotic and sent her home, case closed. But yeah...FREAKY!!!

I woke up once with a tiny spider in my ear. It never bit, but it took a few minutes to flush out with plain water. A guy I work with had a small cockroach get into his ear -- he had to go to the ER to make sure they got all the parts out -- ew.
