I've never filed before. Do I just send my W-2 and the form somewhere?

If all you have is a W-2 go to www.irs.gov and click on the efile icon on the left hand side. Follow the links and answer a few questions about yourself. You will then be directed to the cheapest and most appropriate services to use.

If you file online you do not send your W-2 anywhere unless they ask for it.

Filing online and electing for direct deposit gets you a refund in 8-15 days. If you file today and it is accepted before Thursday at 11am, you will have your federal refund (assuming you are getting one) deposited into your bank account on Friday 22nd March.

No. You need to file a tax return. If all you have is a W-2, you could file form 1040-EZ. Here is the form and its instructions. Box 1 on your W-2 gets reported on line 1 of the 1040-EZ. Federal tax withheld in box 2 of your W-2 gets reported on line 7. You may want to prepare them online to see if youre eligible for any tax credits, like the earned income tax credit.

You may also need to file a state tax return, depending on where you live.
