My Sister who gets on my nerves thinks it's funny that I try to do things to make the world a better place. While she thinks the world is ending so why do these "silly" things. I'm the one w/ the conservative Christian sister and I'm a liberal Christian Democrat. I believe it is still our dutty to take care of the planet, be it the end of the world or not. She's the one w/ the know-it-all grin that I want to punch. And I'm not violent. And, yes, we do live together. I'm Bi-polar and have OCD and she thinks that all I need is a little prayer. That's why I have to live at home. But I fear if I stay here I will end up doing something crazy.

I am a Christian but not what I would call a conservative--too much life experience. I too have a mental disorder and if one more person quotes that "new creature in Christ" verse at me I may scream. Just remember she is NOT qualified to judge you...she doesn't understand (obviously) that bipolar isn't of traumatic origin, but an organic problem. Your brain doesn't produce enough lithium, just as a diabetic doesn't produce enough insulin. She would never tell a diabetic to toss their insulin and "just pray"!! There are many physical problems in which the mental aspect is a *symptom*, not the disease. (Such as brain tumors, Alzheimer's, stroke, etc.) If she gets on your case about it again, just tell her "you're not qualified to make that statement" and smile superiorly back. And if possible, leave the room.
You are doing well to deal with your own problems AND try to live mindfully in the world. She criticizes you because you probably intimidate her and make her feel small. I mean, what's her excuse, if she's supposedly "normal"?
And remind her that even if we ARE in the "end times", we're supposed to be faithful in all aspects of life, and we are going to be held accountable for our actions and words--so it's best to do the best we can for the world and those around us.
Best of luck, Matt. We're on your side.

You are who you are, and she has to except that. Tell her to deal with it. If she loves you, she should understand that everyone has a different opinion and you shouldn't change anything about yourself to make her happy. God made every person different for a reason, and if she can't see that, then maybe she needs the prayer. Stay true at heart, and you will find what you are looking for. As for her, i'd just tell her to shut up
