In Iraq there are no 'front lines,' and women are serving there in combat. Also, a female F-14 (it may have been an F-18, but I don't think they had transitioned F18's to the Roosevelt then) pilot off the USS ROOSEVELT CVN-71 blew the snot out of an Al-Quaida position back in 2001 or early 2002.
Also, check this page about a hot 26 year old female Kiowa scout helo pilot flying and fighting in Iraq.

Women do serve on the front lines, they are gunners in convoys, and in aircraft. The navy even has women fighter pilots. They are not authorized in a combat MOS in the Army. They do serve in combat units like Artillery, and Air Defense Artillery.

It was the decision of Congress and the Pentagon... made AFTER the first Gulf War when the fine actions of those females in support roles led to a push to increase their options and available billets (jobs). I'll point out that now that we're back in combat, there isn't as big a push to open combat billets to females.
And they CAN serve in Combat Aviation Units... during my last sea-tour (1997-1999), 5 of the pilots 20 in HS-6 were female... and two of them were among the BEST "sticks" I ever flew with.

its a mans job, if you put women in combat units all they will be is a distraction until they get pregnant and are sent back home.
