Belief is a wise wager. Granted that faith cannot be proved, what harm will come to you if you gamble on its truth and it proves false? If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager, then, without hesitation, that He exists.

Sorry Everyone -- I didn't realize you had been served Blaise Pascal over and over again. Please put your "patience" hats on and be happy.

Pascal's Wager is flawed and is an insult sweety. You should check out the Atheist's Wager. That's a better wager.

Blaise Pascal said it for the same reason you, and countless other Christians here, say it.

He believed Christianity and wanted to convince people who didn't.

His wager is full of holes. Just like Christianity.

So your beliefs are like a game of poker? You don't really believe? You just pretend to do so, in case it might be true?

It's hard to describe such bizarre behavior: illogical, cowardly, dishonest, immoral, poser.

It's also possible that the Flying Spaghetti Monster is true, and countless other gods. May as well worship all of them, just in case. Of course, you won't have time to think, work, or eat.

At least we atheists really do believe in what we say.

Lastly, you embarrass yourself when you say this, because "Pascal's Wager" is complete nonsense; it's well-known as one of the worst (most illogical) arguments in all of philosophy.

is it drinking time again?

Look, pascal's wager is asked here all the time. It has been demolish to bits. Couldn't you read the previous questions?

- what if the hindus are right and you should have been praying to one of their gods
- what if the atheists are right and you wasted a significant slice of your life feeling guilty of sins and wasted time praying and going to church?
- why do you assume a omniscient god would appreciate me faking belief, because really that is the best I can manage. I can't force myself to believe in invisible pink unicorns.

and so on, and so forth.

Pascal's Wager uses SERIOUSLY flawed logic. For an explanation of how go to:

I think Pascal said this because it was a philosophical theory he came up with and either he just threw the idea out there and didn't really believe it, or he was S.T.U.P.I.D.

Pascal's wager has been discussed daily on this forum. I will make my answer short and sweet. I dont want to live my life in fear of a god who would send me to hell. Also, WHICH god?

including to the communicate... i think of the element right that isn't that every person of humankind spend their lives sitting in a room on my own, yet that our consistent interest frequently comes from avoidance of rigidity or dissatisfaction and could carry approximately extra injury than stable. with the potential to take a seat quietly on my own in a room comes the stillness for deeper contemplation and endurance for extra sensible/sensible action to upward thrust up. it is my take.

Is your god so stupid as not to see right through such deceptive lip service? That makes no sense. If he falls for it then he's not all-knowing, if he see's through it then it's a stupid wager. so really it's a lose-lose situation. you cannot fake belief.
