You have to realize that the instant gratifications of this world are shallow and meaningless.
I have a friend who has attained all that a person could ask for of this world - status, wealth, a beautiful house in a nice area in northern California, expensive cars, jewelry, clothing. Yet, she and her husband fight and are not happy. Their daughter, who lives with them and was gifted a BMW, is sad all the time. They are trying to fill their lives with the things of this world, and find that they are still not happy or fulfilled.
Things are just things. A Porsche is just metal and plastic (albeit in a really cool form!) A diamond is just carbon that has crystallized and hardened over time, heat and pressure. It's just a rock.
What matters is your relationships on this Earth, first to God, then to your family, friends, and neighbors. What matters, and what will truly fill you is what you do with your time. Spend it with God and with those who need you, those whom you love. Teach them about your Savior, not necessarily through words, but by the very way you live your life. Enjoy the wonders and nature God has given us. Be thankful for every breath, every drop of water, every sunrise and sunset - then you will have little problem with the shallow and unfulfilling things of this Earth.
Most of all, be JOYFUL - be happy - it's a choice you make, not a condition of your circumstance.

I see what you mean. The world buzzes with a lot of this and that and if you are not careful you get caught up in the noise and get confused, tired, frustrated and cannot keep up withe the competitive lifestyle. If you desire peace and to stay connected to God, you must make a conscious effort to surround yourself with the right things. Inspirational books, audios, inspirational websites. I bought a book called the Wealth Within from www.ecanhappen.com and also downloaded about 20 bonus products from the same site. These books keep me inspired. I also find going into silence or meditation a good help. Hope this helps.

It's hard, but it's a matter of putting your faith above gratification that may result in a short-lived pleasure. However, faith provides a longer-lasting, stronger pleasure and peace.

Read your Bible EveryDay for bout' an Hour.
Faith comes by Hearing and Hearing by the Word of GOD (HE is in the Bible).
When you Read with your Eyes, a Voice Pronounces Every Word in your Head and you "Hear those Words".
Faith comes by Hearing---
You can Build Up your Faith Level Just by Reading the Bible.

In small steps...
If you hadn't exercised in a long time, you wouldn't start out by benchpressing 200lbs. The next day you would be extremely sore and it would be hard to exercise barely all. So, the logical thing is to take it little by little and build up strength.
