I was given three B of A checks made out to me and given to me by a woman. I had known for about three weeks. I cashed the checks at B of A and gave the woman all of the proceeds from the cashed checks. It was later learned that the checks were forged by the woman who gave the checks to me to cash.

One of the checks had a stop notice with B of A .

I took the checks to B of A to cash because I thought they would verify that the signature on their checks was good and that B of A had the responsibility due diligence to validate the checks were good.

B of A is now demanding payment from me.

What can I do?

i am 87 years old and duped by this woman and B of A.

The woman who gave me the checks to cash was arrested for forgery and confessed to the forgery. All of the arrest records and the confession are available.

I trusted that B of

A would have performed due diligence because I presented their check to them to cash; the only had the ability to verify the signature, verify if their was a stop payment onthe check(s) and also verify the fund availablity.

I trusted B of A to protect themselves and me.

I did not deposit the check(s) to my account that only had $100 in it.

B of a must have a responsibility to verify the vehicle the created to attract people to use their banking facilities.

They must have som responsibility to protect their senoir citizens from being duped.

You need to file a complaint. It sounds serious enough to do this. Forgery is not something to screw with. I would gather up all of the documents you can, and take them to a lawyer to check out.

I'm sorry that you got scammed. The bank is following the rules correctly. In a situation like this you should never pay out the money until the checks have cleared. You need to report this to the police to see if they can catch the woman who gave you the checks.

That's a known scam. BofA will not be on your side for this one.
