My friend has a 4 1/2 year old who refuses to poop in the toilet. She has pull-ups that she puts her in when she tells her she needs to poop - - she goes, and they discard of the pull up.

My daughter was potty trained before 2 1/2 - and I know kids are all different, but isn't this extreme!?

For the person who asks why I care: She does it in front of my kid... and my child asks numerous questions about why she does it...it's awkward, to say the least.

The girls mother is lazy and ridiculous. When the girl says she needs to go, the mother should sit her on the toilet until she she goes, or if she still refuses, leave her in her clothes and if she goes in her pants too bad. She would just have to sit in them for a while. I hate parents like this. It makes it harder on everyone else who have children around the same age. If I were you, I wouldn't let the girl back over until she knows she has to use the toilet. It can be hard telling your friend that, but think of your child.

Yeah, that's getting really old, especially for a girl. Boys are usually the harder ones to potty train. I would be worried by the time the kid was 3 1/2, 4 1/2 is really old. She needs to get serious with the kid about this.

That is pure lazy parenting! Putting a pull up on so that she goes poop? Try sitting her on the damn toliet when she says she wants a poop, and make her stay there until she does one!

The average 4 1/2 year old knows exactly what is going on-shes being lazy and knows she can get away with it, unless the parents stop being so lazy this will go on for a long time

It is late. If she is aware enough to know to put on a pull-up when it's time to go, she is certainly aware enough to go in the toilet. She's going to have problems when it comes time to start kindergarten - they are generally required to be potty trained by then. I worked as a preschool teacher before I became a mom, and helped potty train lots of kids. Time and time again, I found that pull-ups hinder the process of potty-training rather than help it.

Maybe the little girl is afraid of water splashing her when she uses the toilet. Try putting a sheet or two of toilet paper in the toilet first. It works. It amazes me the little things that scare kids away from using the toilet.
