will the 6.0 mp Canon S3 IS print high quality 8x10's despite the fact that the megapixels are lower? is the Olympus with ois and 7.1 mp a better bet for 8x10's? and how does anyone feel in comparison with the Kodak Z612?

my fair lady,
a 6.0mp camera will get your perfect prints for a 8x10, although i think the standard is 8.5x11 print size.

The largest recommended print size, estimated from the camera's resolution, is 12x16 or larger. (http://shopper.cnet.com/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-s3-is/4014-6501_9-31740582.html, look under product breef).

I can assure you Canon cameras have the best quality photos, because of their lens, and sensitive image sensor. The s3 is also has image stabilized lens which will help in low light situations or telephoto shots which you will use when your using the 12x side of the zoom.

I have the Canon S3 IS and love it! And yes, it makes super 8x10 prints.

If you are deciding between the three cameras, look up reviews on them, and compare the sample photo's from each one. You may prefer the output of a certain camera, as they will differ, and much of the decision of which is best is subjective.

Here are two links to help you make comparisons.

I find that the S3 photo's are not as clear and crisp as I like, and as I am accustomed to on my Ricoh RDC-7 3.4mp camera. The focus is softer, and noise can be a problem at higher ISO settings. However, the 12x zoom lens and swivel LCD screen tipped the balance for me, and the photo's from it are astounding, once you learn a bit about it and customize the settings. It is not a "point and shoot" camera ... using it as such will bring unsatisfactory results.
