Take about a cup of oatmeal & wrap it in cheesecloth or a "J cloth", close it up with an elastic. Sit in a nice warm bath & gently rub the oatmeal pouch (once it nice and wet) over the itchy areas. Stay in the bath until it cools off & apply calamine lotion to the spots.

You can also take Benadryl to help (don't know what age you are talking about so check with the doctor before giving to a child).

Years ago my pediatrician told us to use Preperation H. A new tube of course. But, it reduced the redness and help with swelling and itching. We used it and it worked. I know it sounds strange.......
