First, I mean absolutely no disrespect. I know that most of you are good people who truly believe they have found the truth. And it's great to want to know the truth.

BUT, JWs are not the only people that spread the word. Christians are taught to do this too! In fact I'm feeling very led by the Holy Spirit to talk about this!!

It is disheartening to see some of your responses....some are very unChristian like and not at all how Jesus would respond to a challenge. Why not just listen to us and answer our questions the way you expect people to listen to you? You know... do unto your neighbor......

I just want to understand. I have learned that you must seek first to understand, and only then when you understand, should you seek to be understood.

Let this be a page of understanding and not a page to be disrespectful. In Jesus' Name, AMEN.

PS- I am aware that some people are rude to you too. I apologize on behalf of all those people.

If they don't believe what you believe, they should be witnessing to you, in a Christian manner, not being rude.

Let's keep it as friendly as possible. No one thinks they are as wrong as I do, but I still give them credit for trying. They are just missing a few important things. You are correct that it seems they are "trained" to not be allowed to listen to other people. One would think that they would feel so passionate about their religion, the way I do about mine, that they would want to listen to others' beliefs and compare. But this is not how it is.

knu - i'm not sure if I understand...are they sharing the word of the Watchtower or of the Bible?

PPS- I am far from evil and far from JW. I will not convert, but I know the truth. I know it in the Bible, and I know it in my heart, and in my spirit. And yes, we have a spirit and soul. And when the Holy Spirit dwells within you can feel Him. Right now the Holy Spirit is hard at work leading people to Jesus for salvation.

JWs -- What would you do if we came to your doorstep with our good news?? Seriously. I really want to know.

2007-03-10 04:43:21 · update #6

Anomaly Thank you for your response.... all of the reasons that you have stated for believing you have found the truth are also the reasons why I believe I have found the truth. I am familiar with JW beliefs b/c I married a disassociated JW that has a pioneer for a sister and a brother who aspires to be an elder. I have spent quite a bit of time listening to their beliefs, but they do not want to hear of mine.

I believe in the Trinity, and I know I have a soul and spirit. And I KNOW that's the truth... so why seek further? I want everyone else to KNOW too. What would convince you that Jesus is God in the flesh? JW's New World Translation verion of Matthew 1:23...
23 “Look! The virgin will become pregnant and will give birth to a son, and they will call his name Im·man´u·el,” which means, when translated, “With Us Is God.”

Does not "with us is God" mean "God is here", "God in the flesh"?

So logically Jesus=Immanuel=God=Jehovah

achtung ---you just proved my point to the HIGHEST degree. I cannot call you a Christian, because to me, a Christian is someone who worships Jesus Christ. If you only worship Jehovah, you cannot be a Christian. That is not disrespectful. That is my belief. And my duty is to show you the truth. I'm not anti-witness, I'm pro-Jesus.

Despite the claims of this questioner, she plainly DOES seem intent on disrespecting Jehovah's Witnesses.

Why else would she insist on pretending that Jehovah's Witnesses are not Christians? Disrespectful indeed, and egregiously wrong!

Sadly, anti-Witnesses repeatedly pretend that Jehovah's Witnesses are not Christian. They use an artificial, trinity-specific definition of the term "Christian" which excludes anyone who does not believe that Jesus is God Himself, rather than the Son of God. Interestingly, pagans in the first century pretended that Christ's followers were Atheists(!) because the Christians had a somewhat different idea from the pagans about the nature of God.

Jehovah's Witnesses teach that no salvation occurs without Christ, that accepting Christ's sacrifice is a requirement for true worship, that every prayer must acknowledge Christ, that Christ is the King of God's Kingdom, that Christ is the head of the Christian congregation, that Christ is immortal and above every creature, even that Christ was the 'master worker' in creating the universe! Both secular dictionaries and disinterested theologians acknowledge that Jehovah's Witnesses are a Christian religion.

The Trinitarian arguments are intended to insult and demean Jehovah's Witnesses, rather than to give a Scripturally accurate understanding of the term "Christian".

In fact, the bible most closely associates being "Christian" with preaching about Christ and Christ's teachings. Review all three times the bible uses the term "Christian" and note that the context connects the term with:
"declaring the good news"
'teaching quite a crowd'
'open eyes, turn from dark to light'
"uttering sayings of truth"
"persuade"
"keep on glorifying"

(Acts 11:20-26) [The early disciples of Jesus] began talking to the Greek-speaking people, declaring the good news of the Lord Jesus... and taught quite a crowd, and it was first in Antioch that the disciples were by divine providence called Christians.

(Acts 26:17-28) [Jesus said to Paul] I am sending you, to open their eyes, to turn them from darkness to light and from the authority of Satan to God... Paul said: “I am not going mad, Your Excellency Festus, but I am uttering sayings of truth and of soundness of mind. ...Do you, King Agrippa, believe the Prophets? I know you believe.” But Agrippa said to Paul: “In a short time you would persuade me to become a Christian.”

(1 Peter 4:14-16) If you are being reproached for the name of Christ, you are happy... But if he suffers as a Christian, let him not feel shame, but let him keep on glorifying God in this name

So why do anti-Witnesses try to hijack the term "Christian" and hide its Scriptural implications? Because anti-Witnesses recognize that it is the preaching work that makes it clear that the relatively small religion of Jehovah's Witnesses are by far the most prominent followers of Christ:

(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded

Thanks for a very well- put and respectful question. You have almost answered the question yourself, though. When you've found the truth, why keep looking? The only thing left is the stuff Satan has put out there to mislead people! Since, as you put it, we feel that we have the truth, why would we expose ourselves to criticism and doubt. The ONLY thing we need to test ourselves and our beliefs against is the bible itself. Everything else is from man's philosophy or Satan's school of thought. The bible is the only God- inspired information we have. No one can become a Jehovah's Witness without first doing a thorough study of the bible. During this time you can decide if what Jehovah's Witnesses believe is actually what the bible teaches. If you don't think it is, then your search for the "truth" is not over, right? But if you do think it is, then there's no need to look further. The bible also warns us; "1 However, the inspired utterance says definitely that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons, 2 by the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, marked in their conscience as with a branding iron..." 1Timothy 4:1,2
2Timothy 3:13 says "But wicked men and impostors will advance from bad to worse, misleading and being misled." Notice it says "impostors". That means people who profess to be Christian but who are not! If you think about it, what better way does Satan have to mislead people than by making them think they have the truth when they do not?! This is emphasized at Matthew 7:21- "21 Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness!"
If you were thirsty, would you want pure water or water with a drop of poison in it, even a tiny drop? Well, the difference in doctrines between Jehovah's Witnesses and other "Christian" denominations is the absence or presence of that drop of poison. They can't BOTH be right. Romans 16:17 says this; "17 Now I exhort YOU, brothers, to keep your eye on those who cause divisions and occasions for stumbling contrary to the teaching that YOU have learned, and avoid them." Jehovah's Witnesses study the bible rigorously. As I stated earlier, anyone must do so before becoming a JW. The bible gives us the teaching that we don't want to be contrary to, so after studying the bible, we want to avoid anything that is contrary to its teaching.
I know this is subject to interpretation, which is where all such discussions end up. You need to ask yourself, "Have I studied the bible and researched how the languages it was written in translate into english and considered the issues involved in the conflict between Satan and God?" Interpretation is a difficult thing to debate, as we are all free- willed beings, but I think that the way you interpret the bible has much to do with what you WANT to believe, what you were TOLD to believe, majority opinion (remember what Jesus said at Matthew 7:13,14), and how much you pay attention to the theme of the bible.
BTW, when you said that some of the JWs responses "are very unChristian like and not at all how Jesus would respond to a challenge.", I couldn't help but cringe. Do you realize that not everyone who claims to be a JW on here actually is? They claim they are and then say something out of line just to smear JWs and make us look bad. Further, we could start a whole other debate on how Jesus would or would not respond to a challenge. It is just as disheartening to us to see some of the responses that other religions put on here.
I hope my "book" here doesn't sound offensive, it wasn't intended to be. I just tried to answer the question briefly but thoroghly. Send me an email if you wish to discuss it further!

first i must say no disrespect taken!

JWs are very zealous to preach the word of God. JWs makes it their utmost duties to set aside quality time to preach to people (matthew 24:19,20 read this) Yet they are still imperfect human and may fall short at times! because they have studied the bible they may be over anxious to share the word and some they may seem to be dominating!
but you know what gets to me? JWs get out of their bed take the iniciative to come to your house mind you they get no recompence for all this just just folllowing Gods laws and some evil unrepentant people throw it back in their face but they are not worried because the bible states that "people will ridicule you and not lisen but their end is near"!

hope you understand (smile)

JW disturb the peace and trepass, etc. I am a christain and have study with them. They change books of the people it will not read the same and take out words like (prayer and fasting). I respect all people believes. But a fool says there is no God. JW do not take reading from other because they are train that way like a cult.

They are taught that other people's opinions are dangerous and listening to them can erode their faith in 'the truth'. Which is why anti-JW material is banned, as well as material from other religions. They are also discouraged from having active friendships with people of other religions/belief systems.
