Hi there! Usually I avoid answering when I see a bunch of provakative answers, or the discussion is getting nowhere. But you asked a great question, and you deserve a fair answer!
We (Muslims) believe in all the prophets which have come to the Christians and Jews, meaning we all worship the same God, and when it comes down to it, they were all preaching the same thing - to submit to the one God. We believe that some things were changed over time in the Bible and the Torah, but that at the beginning, they were the words of God. So, we cannot pretend that they are so very different from us, much less our enemies. There are points we disagree upon, but we believe that the core is the same. We are also told even in the Koran that if God wanted, he could have made all mankind the same religion, but that it is a test for us. And we are told that we should compete (in a good sense) with Christians to do good deeds. AND, very importantly, it says in the Koran that not only Muslims can go to heaven, but all those who believe and do good. And, MOST importantly, it is only God who can see into our hearts, so we cannot (and may not) judge others from the outside.
On a practical level, we are commanded to get along well with each other (other religions), not to mix into them, to leave them in peace. In an "islamic government" (there are no valid examples today!), each religious group is allowed to live in peace, have their own places of worship and even be subject to their own legal systems of judgement. Of course, what is happening today in the islamic world is just a bunch of messed up politics, corruption, power etc. But every educated Muslim knows what is SUPPOSED to happen, few are able to influence it. And it easy to mislead people who are poorly educated or surpressed the point of distress, and turn them against other religions. Those who mislead, and those who follow, will be judged according to what is in their hearts (intentions). So the really peaceful, careful, respectful, polite and educated Muslims who get along with all those around them are the ones you don`t hear about. But there are SO MANY of them.

I hope that this helps you a little bit. There are such great websites with sources which you can quote for your research. I see some really false information in some of the answers already, (including "marrying a 5-year-old), and I hope it won`t put you off looking for better sources. I think you are in England. There are some great mosques there who could give you more info etc. if you want.
Gotta go right now, I`ll try to get some websites to you later. good luck!!

They(the Muslims) are under Commandment to respect the holy elders of all other religions; some are worshiped to. And they believe that there has been Only One Religion since the holy Prophet Adam. As the time is passed by, their are bound to be infringements and revisions, in The Texts and on the rituals. So, a succession of Holy Prophets, assigned to all nations(not only in middle east), reminded their people in their own language about the pristine belief. The basic beliefs are just two: One Unique Supreme Deity * and , that there is accountability of our deeds in the second and eternal life hereafter. Thus there is hardly any room for comparisons. Wish you best wishes for your homework.

'Islam' means 'submission', but Islam is actually rebellion. Muhammad read the Bible, did a re-write, taking out the offence of the cross of Christ, and claimed that an angel had been responsible for his work. His book contains nothing that is theologically novel, proposing that mankind can be justified (accounted righteous) by doing good, not by faith in Christ, that really requires submission. So Islam is 'not Christianity'. Some Muslims do not realise that. Others do, and feel themselves protected from the demands of the gospel through sheltering under the Muslim umbrella.

They are not the only ones. Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses and Roman Catholics have the same strategy. Which one you choose (or gets chosen for you) comes down to where you live, and other accidentals.

I dont know what you mean by "better" but I dont think I am superior over others because of my beliefs. However, because I am a muslims I only believe in my own religion and not others. This doesnt mean that I dont respect other beliefs or act condescending toward others. Islam does value christian and jewish beliefs:

"Not all of them are alike: Of the People of the Book [Jews and Christians] are a portion that stand (For the right): They rehearse the Signs of God all night long, and they prostrate themselves in adoration. They believe in God and the Last Day; they enjoin what is right, and forbid what is wrong; and they hasten (in emulation) in (all) good works: They are in the ranks of the righteous. (The Noble Quran, 3:113-3:114)"

There's a word for people like that...

Muslims think Islam is the last religion and there would not be a better one brought to humankind. They say Muhammad was the last prophet and he brought the most perfect religion to mankind.
