ok, we are carpeting the upstairs...3 bedrooms. The girls have lavendar walls with butterfly border, boys have blue walls with sports theme and our room is a beige color. We will put all same color in the 3 rooms. what would you suggest as a good color choice of carpet for all 3 rooms?

A neutral color, like sand. Grey can be kind of cold and industrial, and white will look bad fast especially if you have kids or a pet.

There are mottly looking neutrals that bring out the best in any other color, and go with any color. They can be quite handsome, and they aren't necessarily cheapie carpets or commercial looking even if it is a little cheat.

Here is a link, with a lot of samples it takes a while to load it.

What I am talking about, and other companies do this...is when there are single yarns of different color families all through the carpet, making it "read" neutral but it actually picks up all kinds of other colors. It is likely to match very well but if it isn't perfect, it won't clash. Here are some examples from the link: Accord 138, Artstone 118 III, Aspire 527, Attribute 135.

See what you think. Lots of companies are doing this. They are the new neutral look...not just browns and grays.

I think maybe a soft warm green would go nice in any of the rooms too...this is presuming everything is a subdued tone of blue purple and beige.

You could do this the other way around, pick a good family friendly comfortable carpet, and then repaint everyone's rooms to go with that? Paint can be almost an afterthought because you can literally get it in any color.

Another option may be...if you insist on carpet, to do what you want, go for high quality neutrals without regard for matching each room. This will provide the house with a nice investment, goes up in property values, etc...then tone the carpet down in each room with area rugs that match each room. If this is not a home improvement situation, then you could skip the carpet and use separate rugs.

Hey There!

I was just browsing around on Yahoo Answers and came across this question of yours.

Stick with a neutral color so the carpet will still go if the paint colors are ever change. They make some carpet that is a beige type or gray color but has little specks in it. IKEA carries a lot of varieties of this carpet. They are great for going with any color and also do not show the littlest speck of dirt.

That is so fun that you are remodeling the upstairs! You're going to have such a fun project!

I would personally choose a light cream color, just for the fact that it's neutral and you won't get tired of it. Also - it will be great to have if you consider selling at any time.

I dont think you are going to find one color to match the different colors in those rooms. I would probably go with a neutral color, a light gray or something. It is best to use neutral colors in your house in case you decide to sell it.

Whatever you do, dont use white carpet. My whole upstairs is white and we have given up on keeping it clean and are just waiting for it to get worse so we can replace it.

White, or beige, always match every color. Now, i wouldnt recomment it if the kids like to wear shoes upstairs. At my house, we have white carpet, and it looks beautiful with no matter what color, the only problem is that we can't wear shoes upstairs

A taupe color would work. Its kind of neutral, but a nice color. It will hide some dirt- if the kids leave any in their rooms.

I'd go with a neutral - maybe a sand color (in the beige family).

a soft grey would be great with the kids rooms and depending on the color could work for your room as well, or a very light tan which would work better with your room and not so well with theirs.
